Balmaceda Airport (BBA) is the gateway: LATAM and Sky Airline fly there from Santiago and Puerto Montt, and JetSMART adds seasonal flights from Santiago. From the airport, rent a car or take a transfer and continue south via Coyhaique.
Most travellers pick up a rental car at the airport: the Carretera Austral is the only road south and public transport is limited. Book cars early for January and February, when demand peaks. Airline routes change; confirm them on the airline sites before you book.

By car the village is 4–5 hours south of Coyhaique on Route 7 via Villa Cerro Castillo, with unpaved sections. The drive is scenic and slow, best done in daylight; many travellers break it with a night in Villa Cerro Castillo, about 2.5 hours before Puerto Río Tranquilo.
Fill the tank in Coyhaique or Villa Cerro Castillo: Puerto Río Tranquilo has a Copec station, but fuel is scarce on the long stretches. Expect roadworks; one guest's kayak slot was moved when Route 7 closed for works. Arrive the evening before so you can take a calm morning tour.

We do not print the distance or drive time from Chile Chico, because we could not confirm them from a reliable source; plan it as a full travel day and arrive before dark.

You cannot walk or drive to the Chapel and Cathedral: they stand in the lake. Leave the car at your hotel; every meeting point is within walking distance of the village centre.
